The time of year for the pulse polio has arrived. Please make the children you know including your neighbor's children get the pulse polio drops. K. Rosaiah will symbolically launch the programme today by administering a dose of trivalent oral polio vaccine to a child. The vaccine is found to be effective in tackling all the three types of polio virus.
Over 1,860 mobile teams would cover the children of nomadic groups, beggars, migrated families, labourers at the construction sites and even agriculture fields. The State saw no polio case in 2005 and 2006 when 66 and 676 cases reported all over the country respectively. Andhra Pradesh reported only one case in 2008 (559 in India ) and nil in 2009 (703). Anil Punitha, Commissioner, Family Welfare, said doses would be administered at booths on Jan. 10 whereas the volunteers and health officials would visit houses during the next two days to do the same there.
