I am Sura, not Pura Says Vijay

Vijay and ‘punch dialogues’ have become two sides of a coin. His 50th film ‘Sura’, directed by S P Rajakumar of ‘En Purushan Kuzhandhai Madhiri’ and ‘Azhagar Malai’ fame, too have a handful of ‘powerful one liners’, we learn.
If reports are to be believed, in one of the punch dialogues the actor utters in the movie is, ‘Samadhanama poga nan pura illa da…Sura’ which, if roughly translated, means ‘I am not a dove to prefer peace, I am a shark’.”
‘Sura’ has many other similar one liners, sources say. Vijay plays a fisherman in the film which is being shot in Puducherry, Visakhapatnam and Cochin.
Vadivelu is taking care of the comedy part while Tamannah plays a college student who falls for Vijay. Produced by Sangili Murugan (the producer of ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai’), ‘Sura’ will be released by Sun Pictures.

Is Anushka too tall for Kollywood?

Anushka, the craze of 2009 following her blockbuster Arundathi has no takers today in Kollyood! Why? Size does matter in Tamil cinema for heroines! If the heroine is too tall then you will dwarf our super heroes!

In Kollywood, last year’s hot and happening heroine Anushka (5ft 9in), after Vijay’s Vettaikaran and yet to be released Suriya’s Singam has no new offer coming her way.

The beautiful Bollywood babe Sameera Reddy (5ft 8in), after Vaaranam Aayiramand Aasal has only a Gautham Menon untitled film with newcomer Veera on hand. Namitha (5ft 10in) the glamour queen has just one film Azhagana Ponnuthan to release in Tamil.

Similarly, tall girls like the beautiful Vimala Raman and the gorgeous Lakshmi Rai has been virtually driven out of the industry due to their height. Now Anushka is facing the same problem.

Vijay fans themselves have said that their Ilayathalapathy literally one of the tallest heroes in the industry, did not match the big-built, tall Anushka in Vettaikaran. And no top hero wants to work with the Amazonian Anushka.

Meanwhile, the tall actress has reworked her strategy and is doing films with only taller heroes in Telugu like “good friend” Gopichand.

After Arundathi, Anushka is doing yet another graphics laden heroine oriented Rudrama Devi in Telugu.

Sundar C. is the Mohanlal of Tamil: Sathyaraj

At the audio launch of director Shakthi Chidambaram’s Tamil film Guru Sishyan at Prasad Lab preview theatre in Chennai on February 27, popular Tamil actor made a comparison between Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Tamil’s mass masala hero Sundar C., saying that Sundar’s acting style is natural like Mohanlal.

“I would call him the Mohanlal of Tamil Nadu,” said Sathyaraj, who recently made his Malayalam debut with ace director Kamal’s Aagathan, featuring Dileep and Charmi in the lead roles.

Sathyaraj also made it clear that he is in a transition period from a hero to a character actor. Guru Sishyan has Sathyaraj, Sundar C. and new oomph girl Sruthi in the lead. Industry bigwigs Ramanarayanan, Sivasakthi Pandian, Guhanathan, Khushbu, Saranya, Bharath, Perarasu, Selvabharathi and Badri also attended the audio launch.

That was the clear advice given by the super star and Dhanush religiously follows it. The actress, who is on cloud nine after ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’, says, “The laurels and appreciations that I received from my contemporaries, co-stars and fans have floored me. They enjoyed my performance. It has made me more responsible now.”

“The long wait has rewarded me with rich harvest,” she says and adds: “The film has won critical appreciation and more so my role has been widely acclaimed”.

Expressing her gratitude to director Selvaraghavan, she says, “After being in the industry for several years and doing movies in different languages, I was looking for a different film and thus came ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’. People have seen me as glamour doll.”
