Uruguay Vs Netherlands
Date : 06 July 2010

This should be a great match pitting two of the sports’ hottest teams against each other with the winner heading on to the World Cup Finale. No team has been hotter than the Dutch, winning each and every game during their run for the World Cup, 5-0 thus far. The Netherlands were a big underdog to favored Brazil in their last match, but after falling down 1-0 they stormed back and ousted the powerful Brazilians. No team has been better in this World Cup.

Uruguay, a team barely even expected to get past the opening group play, found them selves in a tough spot against Ghana in their last match. With the match tied in the final minute of extra time, Ghana put a couple shots on goal, one in which Luis Suarez (not the team’s goalie) jumped up and blocked with his hands. After getting booted off the field by the referee’s red card, Suarez walked off the field, and had his back turned when Ghana’s star striker, Asamoah Gyan slammed the ball off the crossbar on his potential game-winner. It went to penalty kicks and Uruguay’s goalie stopped two Uruguay shots to advance to the semis.

Uruguay’s Diego Forlan has been one of the World Cup’s best players, controlling the ball, scoring goals, and making amazing passes to his teammates. Uruguay may have been lucky to escape Ghana, but they’ve gotten here with elite play.
I just have a feeling that the Netherlands are too locked in offensively to be stopped by Uruguay. The Dutch have scored 2 goals in 4 of their 5 matches in this World Cup, and didn’t lose a single International Friendly leading up to the Cup. They are 5-0 and have been great on both sides of the pitch. I like the Netherlands to get past Uruguay on way to the World Cup Finals.

The FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa is now into the closing stages with the first semi-final being played tomorrow, Tuesday July 6. It’s Uruguay vs Netherlands which is being played at the Green Point Stadium. Netherlands played an exciting quarter-final and succeeded in knocking out Brazil and who could forget Uruguay vs Ghana and the heartbreaking penalty shoot out that knocked Ghana out of the tournament.

This match then is set to be gripping and full of tension as we wait to see who will gain their place in the World Cup 2010 final. The match is scheduled to kick off at 8:30 pm local time, or see the World Clock here for the time wherever you are.

Uruguay will be without two of their key players. Luis Suarez was sent off in the match against Ghana for handling a ball going into the goal, while Jorge Fucile earned another booking during the match which means he’s suspended for the semi-final. Uruguay is also beset with injury problems with Nicolas Lodeiro having a broken foot and a knee injury for Diego Lugano, according to BBC Sport.

Meanwhile the Netherlands has two players suspended, Gregory van der Wiel and Nigel de Jong. Although he received an elbow injury, Robin van Persie is able to play and Joris Mathijsen is also back from injury. Many people may be surprised to realise that the Netherlands has never won the World Cup 2010. It does seem strange considering how many amazingly talented players they’ve had over the years.

Uruguay won the inaugural World Cup in 1930 and again in 1950 but have struggled in recent years to revive their fortunes. It all makes tomorrow’s semi-final look as though it will be a promising game as there’s plenty of flair on both sides. For more on this go to BBC Sport. We’ll be giving you details of where to find free live online streaming shortly before the game tomorrow so make sure to check back with us. What are your predictions for Uruguay vs Netherlands. We’d be interested in your comments on this.

What: FIFA 2010 World Cup
Who: Uruguay vs Holland (Semi-final)
When: Tuesday 6th July, 2010, at 19:30 UK Time
Where: Green Point Stadium, Cape Town

At the beginning of this year’s World Cup, many would have suggested that at least one South American team would be in the semi-finals, but very few would have guessed that two time winners Uruguay would be leading the Latin continent’s charge. With the loss of Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina in the quarters, Uruguay have sparkled to delight many spectators across the world, not just the country’s three million inhabitants. Solid wins in the group stages against South Africa and Mexico saw them top their group and ultimately strive to a good showing. Having arguably one of the easier routes to the semi-finals, La Celeste have accounted for South Korea and perhaps fortunately, Ghana.

This is a team in where the stars have truly stepped up with Diego Forlan, Luis Suarez and Diego Lugano, putting their best foot forward to contribute to this run. Since the group stages, their defence has been found out on occasion, but their frontline potency has accounted for what teams have come their way. Luis Suarez especially has arguably played one of the biggest parts in getting the Uruguayans to this meeting with Holland after sacrificing himself on the goalline (he palmed out a certain goal with all the agility of a seasoned keeper) to deny Ghana, who watched with anguish when Asamoah Gyan subsequently missed the resulting penalty.

Coach Oscar Tabarez will be more than happy with his team, but the wily manager might have to be content with a semi-final appearance. The loss of Luis Suarez to suspension, and the possibility of Diego Lugano being ruled out with injury, will have the 63-year-old former AC Milan boss scratching his head as to who will be good enough to step in at this stage in the competition.

Date and location

Tuesday, July 6, Green Point Stadium, Cape Town

Live on CBC and CBCSports.ca (2 p.m. ET)

A berth in the World Cup final against the winner of Germany-Spain, to be contested in Soccer City in Johannesburg on July 11. Loser drops to the third-place game against the loser of Germany-Spain, to be contested in Port Elizabeth Stadium in Port Elizabeth on July 10.

Uruguay needed some magic to even its quarter-final tie against Ghana. Fittingly, it came from Forlan's boot on a free kick in the 55th minute, his third goal of the tournament. He also scored the opening penalty kick in the shootout to get La Celeste off and running. He will need to be better than ever against the Dutch, as Uruguay is missing its other top scoring threat, Luis Suarez, who picked up a red card against Ghana and is suspended.

He carried his club side, Bayern Munich, to the Champions League final this past season, and now he's doing the same for the Dutch in the World Cup. Robben shredded and infuriated Brazil's defence in the quarter-final, forcing a substitution from Brazil when Michel Bastos couldn't contain him, and inciting Felipe Melo to pick up a red card later, which salted away the win. It's a safe bet he will figure large in the biggest game of his life.

Injuries have hit Uruguay hard. Skillful midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament because of a broken foot. Centre back and captain Diego Lugano is also a big injury worry for Uruguay, as he had to leave the quarter-final against Ghana because of a knee problem and is fighting to be fit for the match against the Dutch. Fellow starting defender Diego Godin is also dealing with injuries, having missed the game against Ghana because of a thigh injury, but looks like he'll be fit to play in the semifinal.

Uruguay has made it once again to the latter stages of a World Championship, but the players are not satisfied with the goal reached. "To write history is to lift the cup" were Uruguay's captain Diego Lugano's words when asked about the performance of the Celeste. Uruguay only took on Netherlands once in a world cup, back in 1974 when the Oranges won 2-0.

Uruguay will have an Herculean task ahead, as it looked like Maestro Tabarez had found the perfect scheme to face any rival in South Africa after the first draw with France, but for this decisive match he'll be lacking three decisive players: Jorge Fucile was cautioned against Ghana -having already received a yellow card before, joining Luis Suarez in the list of Celeste's players with disciplinary problems. As if this was not enough, Uruguay's captain Diego Lugano might not be fully recovered of the strong impact on his right leg in the last match.

Mauricio Victorino will must surely occupy Fucile's place, though this will give Tabarez's team less presence to overwhelm from the wings. Suarez's replacement poses a totally different problem: It wouldn't be wise for Uruguay to have Forlan occupy the role of main play maker, as the Celeste won't be having a heavy weight striker to take better advantage of that strategy. Edinson Cavani will most surely be the second striker; Will Uruguay's coach prefer to modify his strategy to have more presence in the midfield or will Sebastian Abreu take over Suarez's place?

Young Nicolas Lodeiro, on the other hand, will most surely miss this game as his right foot will probably sideline him for the rest of the Cup, after experiencing intense pain against Ghana. Tabarez misses another creative player with this absence. At least Diego Godin appears to be ready to join Uruguay's back line, recovered from a muscular fatigue.

"We've been at the party for long, now it's time to dance" were Abreu's words, showing how seriously was team's morale boosted after last week's victory. If Tabarez takes advantage of the momentum of his team, than the Europeans will have a tough match against the last standing South American.

Uruguay will definitely be without suspended duo Luis Suarez and Jorge Fucile. Suarez was sent off for handling Dominic Adiyiah’s goal-bound header in the quarter-final win over Ghana, while Fucile earned his second yellow card of the tournament in that match. Creative midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro has been ruled out of the tournament with a broken foot, while captain Diego Lugano is struggling with a knee injury.

Netherlands striker Robin van Persie has been cleared to face Uruguay following a hospital scan on an elbow injury. Defender Joris Mathijsen will also return from a knee injury. Gregory van der Wiel and Nigel de Jong are suspended.

Uruguay have surprised many by making it this far and go into this Cape Town encounter thanks chiefly to the efforts of Luis Suarez, after the Ajax man handled on the line to prevent a Ghana winner in the last round. Holland finally got into gear with a terrific comeback win over Brazil and Bert van Marwijk will be hopeful his side can make it to Sunday’s final.

Uruguay will go against the Netherlands Tuesday in the first semifinal at the World Cup football tournament in South Africa.

The Uruguay-Netherlands match-up in Cape Town features a two-time World Cup champion against a two-time World Cup finalist.

The Dutch have been described as perennial underachievers on football's biggest stage, but they have won five consecutive matches in South Africa, including a 2-1 victory over five-time World Cup champion Brazil in their last game.

Midfielder Wesley Sneijder has been spearheading the Dutch attack. He has four goals, including both scores against the Brazilians.

After the quarterfinal win over World Cup favorite Brazil, Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk has warned his players not to underestimate Uruguay.

"This is the moment that I already talked about for two years, that the next game is always coming and when you beat Brazil and you are in the last four of the world, then what is coming is the next game, and the next game is Uruguay and they are fighters, survivors, and we have to be very, very concentrated," coach Bert van Marwijk said.

The Netherlands lost back-to-back World Cup finals to Germany in 1974 and to Argentina in 1978.

Uruguay won the inaugural World Cup in 1930, which it hosted, and won the title again at the 1950 tournament in Brazil.

Uruguay has one of the world's top strikers, Diego Forlan, who has three goals at this World Cup. Another top striker, Luis Suarez, will miss the match against the Dutch after being called for a handball on the line in the final seconds of extra time in the team's quarterfinal victory over Ghana, a game decided by penalty kicks.

Suarez's controversial play is credited with getting Uruguay into the semifinals, while many African football fans feel he cheated Ghana out of a deserved victory.

Europe is already assured of one place in Sunday's final, since Spain and Germany meet in the second World Cup semifinal Wednesday in Durban.

The Spaniards beat the Germans, 1-0, in the 2008 European championship final. But, the youthful German squad may be in better form going into the Durban encounter.

Germany has routed two old rivals in its past two matches, beating England, 4-1, and Argentina, 4-0.

The Germans have scored a tournament-high 13 goals in South Africa. Twenty-year-old Thomas Mueller and 32-year-old veteran Miroslav Klose have scored four each. Klose is now only one goal from equaling the World Cup's all-time scoring record, of 15 goals, held by Brazil striker Ronaldo.

Meanwhile, Spain's David Villa leads all scorers in South Africa with five goals. Villa's 83rd-minute goal lifted Spain to a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in the quarterfinals.

Many will be shocked to see Uruguay still alive and kicking, and just one win away from the World Cup final. Theoretically South America’s fifth best team (based on World qualification) la celeste have outlasted Chile, Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina to be CONMEBOL’s sole remaining representative. Some might even be annoyed at Uruguay’s presence here, since it’s a direct result of Luis Suarez’ handball (since Adiyiah’s header was definitely going in). Good news for those people is that Suarez is suspended for this game as a result of that handball, which breaks up that fearsome Forlan/Suarez combo that’s damaged so many defences in South Africa. Jorge Fucile is also suspended for collecting one too many yellow cards and captain Diego Lugano is struggling with a knee injury. So we’ll find out how good that Uruguayan bench is in this game. More at the Uruguay blog.

The Netherlands have to be favourites here. There were no last minute handballs in their 2-1 win over Brazil in the quarters, and Oranje are the only team left with a 100% record of winning every game at World Cup 2010. Attacking mid Wesley Sneijder has been awarded what we thought was Felipe Melo’s own goal from that quarterfinal, which puts him joint second top scorer in the tournament. I’d say Sneijder’s a good candidate for player of the tournament at this point. The Dutch will be missing right back Gregory van der Wiel and defensive mid Nigel de Jong through suspension. Demy de Zeeuw seems the obvious choice to replace de Jong, but the Man City man’s hard but just about fair tackling will be a big miss. Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie are both expected to be fit. For much more, read Jan at the Netherlands blog.

Just a place in the World Cup final, that’s all. Uruguay won the first World Cup in 1930 and repeated in 1950, but has not been back to the final since. The Netherlands went to consecutive finals in 1974 and 1978, but lost to West Germany and Argentina respectively, and haven’t been past the semis in the 32 years since. This looks like their best ever chance to do so, and have another crack at finally joining the World Cup winner’s circle.

Fidel Castro finally made a short speech last night - and claimed that unless Uruguay get to the World Cup Final the entire tournament will be instantly forgotten.

The former Cuban revolutionary and President is famed for public addresses that go on for hours.

But as many fans around the world are hoping for Holland to beat Uruguay in tonight's semi-final in the Green Point Stadium so that "Hand of God" villain Luis Suarez is not rewarded for his blatant act of cheating against Ghana, Castro insisted victory for the South Americans is vital for the good of the whole event.

Castro said: "The vast majority of football fans do not even know what continent Uruguay is in but it seems to me that the referees are biased against the South American sides.

Watch Uruguay vs Netherlands Live Streaming Online World Cup 2010

"It happened when Brazil lost to Holland, when all the decision went against them and they were sent down to 10 men at a crucial time, which should never have been done.

"But a final now, between two European countries, will be as colourless and unhistorical as any since the sport was born in the world."

Castro's bizarre rewriting of history came as Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez made his own rambling and weird defence of Ajax striker Suarez for his last-gasp handball in the quarter-final - and blamed the British media for stirring up trouble.

Tabarez said: "Perhaps you should ask Suarez. I'd like you to ask him that. Like any other person, he always replies when he's asked a question.

"But I'm embarrassed by what has been asked by the British press. That is shameful. They have been speculating by a football action foreseen in the laws of the game.

"It happens in football and it was an instinctive act. Suarez couldn't foresee what happened afterwards, that Ghana would miss the penalty.

"So don't talk to me about a lack of modesty. The Uruguayan people bring out our personal strength when we have to. We are very proud, and we're upset with this topic.

"We're proud of our performances and what we've contributed to the development of football at this World Cup. Uruguay went through almost three matches without a yellow card at all, so please don't tell me we're cheats."

In Suarez' absence, the onus will be even more on stand-in captain Diego Forlan, with Holland well aware the former Manchester United man is the biggest threat to their hopes.

Everton defender John Heitinga, a former team-mate at Atletico Madrid, said: "Diego is a God, both at Madrid and Uruguay, and this World Cup proves that.

"Diego is good with both feet and therefore impossible for a defender to predict what he's going to do. It is imperative not to allow him time to shoot even from distance, because he possesses one of the best shots on the planet.

"He's also a great bloke. I've kept in touch with him since I left Atletico and once I knew that our two countries would play each other in the semi-final, I sent him a text and told him 'It is going to be one hell of a match Diego!"

Forlan will be partnered by Palermo frontman Edinson Cavani, who said: "We know we need to play a perfect game.

"Since we qualified in the play-off against Costa Rica we have played with humility and drive. We know we have the weapons to fight this game."

And Tabarez, forced to make four changes through injury and suspension from the team that played Ghana, insisted his team can upset the established order and reach their first final since 1950.

The coach added: "Nobody really believed this could happen but we're in a celebration and a party to which we hadn't been invited. It feels a bit like that.

"There are only three million people in our country. Some of our rivals have more footballers than we have more people in Uruguay, and that shows what we have achieved.

"We began to dream and now we have an opportunity to make our dream come true.

"World Cups are full of results that nobody really expects. I don't see why it should be so surprising that one of our dreams comes true. This is an extraordinarily motivating experience."

Two teams with deep World Cup traditions meet in a semifinal in Cape Town. Uruguay has won the tournament twice — in 1930 and 1950 — but has not reached this stage in 40 years. The Netherlands, famed for decades for elegant play, reached consecutive finals in 1974 and 1978 but has never won the Cup.

Diego Forlán and Luis Suárez have led Uruguay with three goals each, but Suárez is unavailable for this match; his intentional goal-line handball — cynical or brilliant, depending on your view — saved his team in the dying seconds of regulation time against Ghana but earned him a red card and a one-game suspension. The gritty play of Mark van Bommel in the Netherlands’ midfield gives Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder the freedom to attack. Sneijder, an eagle-eyed playmaker, has scored four goals.

More on : Mani Ratnam Next Movie

After three back-to-back films with Abhishek Bachchan, director Mani Ratnam wants Ranbir Kapoor for his next Hindi film.

The maverick moviemaker is currently wrapping up Raavan with Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and will move to his next film with Ranbir in the lead as soon as Raavan (now in post-production) releases on June 18.

In fact, Mani had shown keen interest in working with Ranbir right after Saawariya. The two had spoken about a project, which got postponed as Mani got busy with Raavan. But now those talks will result in a film. Though sources close to the actor say it's too early to talk about the project, the news from Mani's front is that the film written by Rensil d'Silva (who also wrote Raavan) is a coming-of-age story about a young NRI in London.

As soon as Ranbir finishes the intensive promotion work for his new release Raajneeti, Mani will narrate the scipt to the young actor. More News : Cristiano Ronaldo become a father

Real Madrid's Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has become a father, according to an announcement on his Twitter and Facebook pages as well as reports in Portuguese media.

In a statement, Ronaldo said that he had "recently become father to a baby boy". The Portuguese daily newspaper Correio da Manhã said that Gestifute, the company run by Ronaldo's agent, had confirmed the news.

Ronaldo has declined to identify the mother, but Correio da Manhã reported that she "is from north America and she had her child in early June", according to Agence France-Presse. In an unusual twist, Ronaldo has also said he is to take sole responsibility for the child.

The message posted on Ronaldo's official social networking sites reads: "It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy. As agreed with the baby's mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship.

"No further information will be provided on this subject and I request everyone to fully respect my right to privacy (and that of the child) at least on issues as personal as these are."

Ronaldo, who joined Madrid from Manchester United last summer in an £80m deal, has recently returned home from the World Cup in South Africa, where Portugal were eliminated at the last-16 stage.

Pakistan vs Australia is the first of two back to back Twenty20 matches over the next two days. Australia are the favorites to win the game but have just lost a ODI series to England, check full Pakistan vs Australia odds here. Even though Australia lost their recent one day series with England they did manage to win the last two matches and will coming into the game on a bit of a high. Pakistan have always been a top class Twenty20 side and were one of the first to win the Twenty20 World Cup. Today’s game will be played at Edgbaston and starts at 5pm GMT, you can see full match odds here.

The last time these two teams met was the semi final of this years World Twenty20 tournament. Australia won the match but only just as they hit the winning runs off of the final ball of the game.

Pakistan have toured in Australia this year and the Aussies walked all over them. Australia will also be on a bit of a high entering the match on the back of two straight wins against England.

Pakistan vs Australia 1st Twenty20 Live Streaming

We think that Michael Clarke’s Australian team are going to have too much for Pakistan and we plan on backing them at 8/13 on Bet365. It looks like a good price with all things considered and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a series white wash by the Aussies this time around. Back Australia at 8/13 now!

Another bet we like the look of is David Warner to be the Australians top run scorer during the match. He is priced at 11/4 on Bet365 to be the top Aussie batsman and that looks like a nice price. Warner is an explosive player and Pakistan’s questionable fast bowling attack will be right up his street. Back Warner to bet the top Aussie batsman at 11/4 now!
