Endhiran in 3D?

Director Shankar is planning a 3D version of the magnum opus ‘Endhiran’ to pre-empt any piracy attempt.

After the unpleasant episode in ‘Jaggubhai’, where the full length film was leaked on the internet even before it came out of the processing lab, Shankar is trying each and every way to plug the holes. Today all major films are happening under strict vigilance by competent persons. Mani Ratnam has appointed managers at each point where the works for ‘Raavan’ is happening.

So in a no holds barred attempt to make the audience watch ‘Endhiran’ only at theaters, Shankar is even contemplating to convert a part of ‘Endhiran’ film into a 3D version. He has already started consultations to this effect with the experts on the economics of converting the film into a 3D film.

The demo version of ‘Endhiran’ in 3D was shown to Shankar by an effects company and he is awfully impressed with the result. So the chances to see ‘Endhiran’ wearing the 3D spectacles are great.

Singam roars for the tiger

Suriya’s Aircel 'Save Our Tigers' campaign with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) India, launched across television channels in India is turning out to be a runaway super hit.

The tiger population in the wild in India has dropped to 1411 in comparison to 40,000 tigers a hundred years back. The campaign calls for immediate action as the specie pushes nearer to extinction.

The week old campaign has already created a buzz. 'Stripey the Cub', the face of the initiative, has huge fan following on popular social networking website like Facebook and Twitter.

The through-the-line campaign portrays the world as it’s seen through the eyes of a six-months old tiger cub named Stripey. He is shown to be waiting for his mother that will never return, as gunfire of the poachers is heard in the background.

Suriya told : "I was shocked seeing the actual number of tigers left in the wild. So I was keen to create an awareness and be a part of the campaign".

The campaign has called on the support of Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, footballer Baichung Bhutia and actors Suriya, Kabir Bedi and Shernaz Patel.

It is another feather on Suriya’s hat and a great initiative undertaken by him. The star’s walrus moustache and Singam look has been able to reach across to millions of households in Northern India. Well done Suriyaji, Aapne kamaal kar diya!

Kalaignar appreciates Ajith’s speech

In gratitude for the land allotted in Kancheepuram for deserving members of the cine industry by our venerated Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi, FEFSI organised a felicitation ceremony over the weekend. The elaborate thanksgiving event saw the entire Tamil film industry present including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar and Vijay. The guest of honour was Bollywood’s great Amitabh Bachchan.

While various celebrities came on stage to thank our CM, Ajith took the opportunity to put in an earnest request – one that came as quite a surprise. Ajith, who is known for his quick, diplomatic messages at such FEFSI hosted functions, began his speech by thanking the CM and also exalting him as the Sun of the Tamil Film Industry and the five and half foot representation of Tamil Nadu itself! He then went on to make a very sincere request that cinema and politics need not be forcibly co-mingled. The actor alluded to several incidents – fasting and parades that were undertaken by FEFSI members supporting or protesting a social cause. While the actor is not averse to such FEFSI initiatives, he insisted that forcing every member of the industry to participate in them was something he and many like him were not in favour of. He added that threats to ostracise non-conformers from the industry had become a common occurrence and those should most certainly be put an end to; and only the CM had the power to do so. The actor reiterated that he was tired of such an unbecoming attitude from senior members of the industry and beseeched the CM to make a statement that members of the cine industry must not be forced to participate in political or social issues.

While the whole of the industry sat shocked, not knowing how to respond to Ajith’s honest words, it was Super Star Rajinikanth, who sat beside the CM, who stood up and clapped. The rest of the industry then followed suit.

When our CM went behind the microphone, he stated that it was not his intention to mix cinema and politics, and added that should politics enter cinema, it should only be for a good purpose. He also agreed that cine folk should not be forced to make statements or participate in events related to social causes. At the same time, he was very appreciative of the integrity and unity of the Tamil cine industry, because everyone had turned up for the felicitation.

Sultan The Warrior releasing in April?

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated computer animation film Sultan The Warrior, being directed and produced by Rajinikanth’s younger daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth, is expected to grace screens worldwide in April with 3,500 prints in 18 languages, including English, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. 95% of the film is over.

The music by Oscar winner A.R. Rahman is likely to hit the stands in the near future. Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of his soundtrack for the Hollywood film Couples Retreat, the composer already said that the compositions in Sultan The Warrior would be “distinctly different”.

I am ready to act with Simbu: Dhanush

If you are of the opinion that there exists a cold war between Dhanush and Silambarasan, think again. Both the actors are good friends and proving this now is Dhanush, who says he is ready to act with Silambarasan.

“If there is a script that is so powerful and has meaty roles for both of us, I am ready to share the screen space with Silambarasan,” says the son-in-law of the Superstar. He also says the crew too should be equally strong.

“And last not but not least, the producer should be able to pay our salary,” he says with all smiles. On the remake of Telugu blockbuster ‘Ready’, for which he is currently shooting for, Dhanush says, “the film will be racy right from the first scene.”

“Acting with Genelia is a delight,” he says and adds: “Because the actress is full of energy and is a thorough professional.” Ask him about director Mithran Jawahar, he says, “This is my third film with him. Hope we would score a hat trick.”

Sunaina stars with Kalaignar’s grandson

Two grandsons [Udhayanidhi Stalin and Dayanidhi Azhagiri] are raking in the moolah with their respective production houses, and the third has decided to take the plunge in front of the camera! Arulnidhi, son of M.K. Tamilarasu (Kalaignar Karunanidhi’s son), was an aspiring director. We hear that the 23 year old is a trained director and was aching to get his own movie going when someone in the family suggested he try his hand at acting first! So he will soon to grace the silver screen in a movie directed by Pandiaraj of Pasanga fame and produced by daddy dearest!

The movie will also star Sunaina, who is carefully picking her way through Tamil flicks. This promising lovely awaits the release of Yathumagai opposite Sachein and the completion of Thiruthani with Bharath. In Yathumagai we hear she plays a rather powerful role that gives her immense acting scope, while in Thiruthani, she has some trademark Perarasu style moments of humour! What genre will the movie with Arul come under? Given that the team is really hush-hush and wanting to keep their hero especially hidden, looks like it will be a long while before we know much about the movie! Shooting is likely to start next week. Maybe at the pooja we’ll find out more!

Ajith Kumar becomes real superstar

Ajith Kumar becomes the ultimate superstar in real life with superstar Rajinikanth himself acclaiming him with a standing ovation during the felicitation ceremony for Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

As a matter of fact, almost all the celebrities of Tamil filmindustry have praised Ajith Kumar for his stunning speech that slammed down those executive members of particular unions and associations forcing actors to take part in social and political issues or face trouble.

Addressing his plea to Chief Minister, he said, "Kindly don't involve us in almost every social and political event. We the actors are persistently threatened to attend every occasion or else face serious results. We are just actors and please save us from this speculative situation."

Soon as Ajith Kumar completed his speech, Rajinikanth was elated with his outspoken act and raised his hands for a big applause. As a matter of fact, most of the actors in Tamil film industry have congratulated and praised Ajith Kumar that he has courageously expressed his views on their behalf.

Amitabh Bachchan, who was present as the guest of honor too supported Ajith Kumar for his outspoken speech.

Vijay and Asin in Bodyguard remake

It's been a long time since Vijay and Asin have shared screen space. Earlier, the duo had delivered a fabulous spell of blockbusters with 'Sivakasi' and 'Pokkiri'.

Although, many south Indian filmmakers and actors kept requesting her, the actress had to refuse their offers due to busy schedules in Bollywood.

Now with the actress running out of offers in Bollywood, she seems to have accepted to pair with Vijay in the Tamil remake of 'Bodyguard'.

The Malayalam version 'Bodyguard' is directed by Siddique and featured Dhilip-Nayanthara in lead roles.

Producer R.B Choudary of Super Good Films has signed Siddique and Vijay for this remake version

Actor Kanaka hits back at her father

Actor Kanaka, who complained that her husband was missing, today hit back at her father for describing her as ''mentally deranged woman.'' Kanaka, daughter of popular yesteryear actress Devika, said her father was branding her as a ''mentally deranged woman'' with an eye on her property.

Alleging that her husband had been kidnapped by some people, who were trying to appropriate her properties, Kanaka said she was even willing to travel to the US in search of her ''missing'' husband Muthukumar.

Kanaka, who shot to fame after ''Karakattakaran,'' a box office hit in the early 1990s, had been staying away from limelight after her mother's death. She charged her father with harassing her mother and held him responsible for her mother's death.

Last week, the actor lodged a complaint at the Chennai Police Commissioner's Office that her husband Muthukumar was missing.

She alleged that her husband could have been kidnapped and her father Devadoss along with former friend ''Aavi'' Amudha were involved in the kidnapping with an eye on her property.

She said after her mother's death she was left in the lurch.

In 2004, she met Muthukumar and got married secretly in 2007, and lived happily for just 15 days after which he disappeared.

Kanaka also called on Muthukumar's parents at T Nagar recently and claimed that she spoke over phone to her husband from their house.

Why Madhavan doesn't sign Tamil projects

Doubtlessly, this question is topmost on the minds of Maddy's fans who are eagerly looking out for his next Tamil release. It's been nearly a year after the releases of 'Guru En Aalu' and 'Yaavarum Nalam' and Madhavan hasn't signed any Tamil projects.

His long awaited project 'Naan Aval Adhu' is still remaining, recently, the actor was present in Chennai for a brand endorsement filming and had interacted with media channels. When asked about his present projects over here, the actor apparently replied that he hasn't signed any Tamil films as most of the scripts were cliched.

Adding more, Maddy says, "I don't like performing stereotypical roles and I am looking for groundbreaking stories and exceptional characterizations. Much before commencing the shoot, I would like to familiarize the role I am enacting. Say for instance, before starting my portions for '3 Idiots', I got familiar with the present subjects dealt in academic studies of IIT and some more interesting traits on those arenas."

It's interesting to hear Maddy let's hope that he makes his comeback shortly with an extraordinary script. As of now, Maddy is awaiting the release of 'Teen Patti', in which he shares screen space with legends of World Cinema- Amitabh Bachchan and Ben Kingsley.

'Teen Patti' is loosely based on Hollywood thriller '21' that centers on a professor training 5 of his best students to gain mastery over card games so as to win money at the casino clubs in Las Vegas.
