Asal Release on February 12
Ajith's much-awaited 'Asal', produced by Sivaji Films and directed by Saran, is confirmed for release on February 12.
The producers are planning for a big release across Tamil Nadu and parts of overseas, where Tamil films have a huge fan-following. Initially 'Asal' was supposed to hit the screens on February 5, but has been pushed back by a week.
Besides Ajith, the film features Sameera Reddy, Bhavana and yesteryear hero Suresh in the cast. Music is by Bharadwaj. According to Ajith, "Normally I prefer to let the film speak for itself. Yet I have to tell you that every aspect including the stunts and chases in 'Asal' exemplifies the title. Everything is original and genuine."
He adds: "Sivaji Films is one of the best companies I've worked for. I think it's because they belong to a family of actors." Expressing his gratitude to Sivaji Films for the freedom given to him to bring out a quality product, Saran says, "They never bothered about the budget. All they wanted was a slick entertainer. “Over the months, even as the Mumbai police have conducted several drills to check our preparedness against terror, the skepticism among the citizens about their safety still exists. To assure them that we are well-equipped to protect them and that they need not worry, we have decided to take out a rally as part of our Janajagruti Abhiyan i.e. a campaign to generate awareness,” said police inspector Vijay Khaire of the Pant Nagar police station who is organising the rally.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone VII as well as senior police inspector M S Suryavanshi of the police station will be guiding the rally.

Ethiopian Plane Crash
A Lebanese aviation official reported that an Ethiopian Airlines plane carrying 83 passengers and nine crew disappeared from radar shortly after takeoff from Beirut. Officials are quoted saying that the plane may have crashed into the sea.
The plane was headed to Ethiopia. About 50 of the passengers were Lebanese, the official said.

Pakistan to lodge complaint with ICC against IPL
Since the Pakistani players are being completely ignored by IPL, Pakistan Cricket board has announced that it will take the matter to ICC.
PCB chairman Ijaz Butt has announced that PCB will lodge a formal protest with ICC during its next meeting.
"We will be lodging a complaint with the ICC and I will personally table this issue at the next meeting of the ICC executive board on February 10"-- Butt said.
He also said that even though IPL is a private body the decision of such kind is involved with the pride of their nation.
"The IPL may be a private and commercial enterprise but this issue involves the pride of a nation and we are going to pursue it with the ICC"—he said.
He also questioned the decision to include the Pakistani players in the auction list.
"If franchises had reservations about signing Pakistani players because they were worried about security issues and availability of the players why our players were included in the auction in the first place?" he asked.

Indian captain MS Dhoni has been given approval to purchase a 9 mm pistol as he has been given an arms license for weapons of prohibited bore.
The Union home ministry informed that Dhoni’s application for a 9mm pistol license was given to civilians only under a special provision of the Arms Act.
Jharkhand Home Secretary J.B. Tubid said, "The central home ministry two days ago told us that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been given prohibited bore arms license."
Tubid said the central home ministry held some queries and the state government had replied to them, following which license was issued to the Indian captain.
The star cricketer already has Z-category security and also has a license for a 7.65mm pistol since 2006.
Dhoni, who already has a license for weapons of non-prohibited bore, had applied for prohibited bore license in August 2008 as he wanted to purchase 9 mm pistol.
Ranchi deputy commissioner K.S Soan, said, “The license of a prohibitive bore (9mm) is not allowed to civilians under the Arms Act but there are administrative orders which empower the Union home ministry to issue such a licence under special circumstances.”
“The license has been issued under the rule,” he added.
“He (Dhoni) happens to be the Team India captain, so we want to ensure that there is no loophole in his security,” Soan said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has invited the Malaysian Prime Minister Mohammed Najib Tun Abdul Razak to attend the World Classical Tamil Conference.

175 days for Magadheera
Magadheera, the mega industry hit of Tollywood, has completed 175 days in 3 centers, Adoni, Gopalapatnam (Vizag) and Benguluru. The film is undoubtedly the biggest hit in the annals of Telugu cinema.
The film which released on July 31st, created new industry records. It ran for 50 days in 302 centers, and 100 days in 225 centers. However the recent Telangana agitation led to the removal of the film from 100 screens, curtailing its silver jubilee run to three screens.
Magadheeradirected by SS Rajamouli, starring Ramcharan and Kajal, on Geeta Arts banner happens to be first Telugu film with a budget of Rs 40 crores. So far, the film grossed over Rs 100 crores.
Allu Sirish of Geetha Arts writing in his blog confirmed that the film has taken a share of Rs 58 Crore!

Bala wins National Award for Naan Kadavul
Tamil filmmaker Bala won the honour of Best Director for Naan Kadavul while Bengali film Antaheen, by director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, was chosen as the Best Film at the 56th National Film Awards announced in New Delhi on Saturday.
Naan Kadavul was made on a tremendous scale, starring 450 physically-challenged children and required lead actor Arya to give in over two years of work.
Antaheen, starring Sharmila Tagore, Rahul Bose, Aparna Sen and Radhika Apte, is a relationship drama.
The award for Best Actor went to Upendra Limaye for Marathi film Jogwa, which also fetched the trophy for the Best film on social issues. Hindi film Oye Lucky Oye by Dibakar Banerjee was adjudged as the Best Popular Film.
