Australian Open Final

Trophy Presentation - January 31, 2010

TENNIS CHAMPION Roger Federer, who is also the world number one has won the men's singles final at the Austrailain Open to regain the crown he lost to Rafael Nadal last year.

Roger Federer defeated No 5 seed Andy Murray (United Kingdom) in three hard-fought sets, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (13/11) in two hours 41 minutes.

This was Federer's fourth Australian Open win, which now takes his total Grand Slam count to 16. His victory also meant an end to Andy Murray's quest for British tennis history. Federer had won the Australian Open men's singles title in 2004, 2006 and 2007.

It was Murray's second Grand Slam loss to Federer following his defeat to the him in the 2008 US Open final and continued Britain's frustrating chase for the first time Grand
Slam winner since Fred Perry last won 74 years ago.

Federer said after extending his record to 16 Grand Slams, two more than Sampras and a whopping 10 more than nearest current challenger Rafa Nadal,

“ I always knew I had it in my hand. The question is (did) I have it in my mind and in my legs,"

ECW Championship: Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson
The announcers are putting over how long Christian has had the title, so I wouldn’t be surprised with a title change here. Jackson has Regal by his side tonight.
Zeke is over powering Christian during the early stages of the match. Regal tried to attack Christian on the outside, but the ref saw Regal’s attempted attack and sent him to the back.
Throughout the match, Jackson kept reserving the killswitch. As he was ramming Christian into the top rope, Christan slipped out of it and hit the killswitch for the win.

The crowd is very pro-Orton. This match is very slow and plodding. Orton gave Sheamus the second rope DDT and went for the punt. However, Sheamus rolled out of the way.
Cody Rhodes jumped over the guardrail and distracted the ref and Sheamus. Orton hit the RKO, but the ref called for the DQ.
Winner via DQ: Sheamus
Cody pleaded his innocent as the crowd chanted RKO. Orton drilled Rhodes and beat the shit out of him. Ted ran in and tried to pull Orton off. Orton attacked him too. Orton turned away into Sheamus’ flying kick.

The babyface divas came into the ring with a giant cake and rammed it into Michelle and Layla’s face.

Bala’s new Tamil heroine "Janani"

National award winning director Bala is starting the shoot of his next film called Avan Evan with Vishal and Arya. The film has a new heroine a Tamil girl Janani Iyer.

Janani said: “I am a Chennai girl born and brought up here and studied at D AV School at Gopalapuram. Then I did my computer science course from Savitha Engineering College. Avan Evan is my first film. But I have done modelling for over 150 ads including national and regional ones.

Jananini always wanted to be an actor as it is her passion in life. So how did she land this film with Bala? “Director Vijay (Poi Solla Porum) is like my guru and he told me that Bala sir was looking for a new face for his film. So I tried my luck by going for his audition. Bala sir after the audition told me that I fit into the role.”

Janani is not allowed as per her contract to speak to the media about her role or the film. Anyway, she has so far made the right moves, and has the potential to be the first Tamil girl after Trisha to make it big in Kollywood.

THOONGA NAGARAM BEGINS

Producer Dayanidhi Azhagiri’s Thamizh Padam hit the marquee yesterday (January 29th) and he has already announced his next venture Thoonga Nagaram. Incidentally, the film went on floors on Azhagiri’s birthday, January 29. The MP attended the movie launch at the Thamukkam Grounds in Madurai.

The film is directed by debut director Gaurav, who had apprenticed under ace director K S Ravi Kumar. Thoonga Nagaram, which is set in Madurai, has ‘Pasanga’ Vimal, ‘Nadodigal’ Bharani and ‘Renigunta Nishanth’ in important roles.

Director Gaurav also dons the greasepaint in his debut vehicle. Anjali plays the female lead in Thoonga Nagaram.

The Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's wife Dayalu Ammal lit the traditional lamp, while Azhagiri's wife Gandhi Azhagiri gave the first clap. Azhagiri wielded the camera to mark the beginning. Azhagiri’s daughters Kayalvizhi and Selvi were also present.

Vijay Ulaganathan, an erstwhile associate to KV Anand is the cinematographer. Sundar C Babu has scored the music. Editing is by Suresh and Santhanam is in-charge of the art direction.

Vivek Rathnavelu is the co-producer of Thoonga Nagaram. Production supervision is by K Sundararaj and the executive producer is Sushanth.

Asal gets a clean U/A

Ajith Kumar’s Asal will now have a pre-poned release on February 5 as the producers have confirmed the new release dates. The members of Censor Board watched the film recently and have passed it with ‘U/A’ certificate for its ‘violence quotients’. It seems that the members have insisted Saran to replace few shots so as to obtain clean ‘U’ certificate.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem to be a possibility as Saran has no intentions of replacing those shots. Earlier, plans were made to release the film on Valentine’s Day weekend (Feb 12), but due to random releases in the following weeks, the producers have preponed the release.

Asal brings back Ajith Kumar and director Saran for the fourth time followed by grand successes of Kadhal Mannan, Amarkalam and Attagasam. Musical score by Bharadwaj has already become sensational hits in audio markets. Sameera Reddy and Bhavana are the heroines in the flick.

Yaavarum Kelir Start Rolling

It’s final now: Kamal Haasan has officially confirmed the title of his next film ‘Yaavarum Kelir’. As known earlier, the film is directed by K.S Ravikumar and is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies.

Finalizing the female lead happened to be a great turmoil for the biggies and now they’ve finalized Trisha for the project. Kamal Haasan’s elder daughter Shruthi Haasan scores music for the film and it’s completely comedy-entertainer with a pragmatic theme in the backdrop.

Kamal Haasan’s spokesperson has mentioned that the film will start rolling from April and will hit screens for Diwali without any delay.

Wow! That’s really tremendous to hear that our very own Kamal Haasan will bring us another quickie within short span of time.

Cheran and Bhagyaraj launch Kurunila Mannan Audio

Paruthiveeran and Subramaniapuram have already strike gold at the box-office so now many filmmakers are gradually shifting their focus to films based on village backgrounds.

Upcoming film Kurunila Mannan follows the lead and stars newcomers Pradeep and Vidhya in lead roles.

The film is produced by Nisha Kennedi of KRK Film Circuit and is directed by debutant Murugaiah (once an associate of director Tamizh Vaanan).

Producer Nisha informs that the complete film has been shot across Kaaraikudi and its surrounding villages in a short span of just 39 days.

Filmmakers Cheran and Bhagyaraj released the film's audio at Sathyam Cinemas. Addressing the special invitees, director Cheran said, "These days, films with star value are supported by theatre exhibitors and distributors. I request audience to extend their aid for films with newcomers as well. Many good films are given a miss by the viewers as they don't boast of a big star cast, but the scenario should change now."
