Asal will be releasing in 500 screens worldwide

Industry sources say that Ajith’s 50th film ‘Asal’ will be releasing in 500 screens worldwide. It’s worthy to mention that Ajith’s previous film ‘Billa’ released in 300 screens across the world with 300 prints.

On the other hand, Chennai distributors are happy as Ajith-Saran films earn awesome collection and so are confident that ‘Asal’ will pay them big time too.

‘Asal’ is expected to throw a lot of surprises and one among them will be Ajith’s getup as they have worked a lot before finalizing that make over.

As of now, Asal’s audio is making rounds often in radio channels. Sivaji films had announced that our Thala will be receiving a special credit from them to have associated with the movie apart from acting in the lead role.

Industry is abuzz that ‘Asal’ might be a Feb release. Produced by Prabhu and Ramkumar for Sivaji Films, Ajith has Sameera Reddy and Bhavana opposite him.

While ‘Jayam’ Ravi is still confused whether to start his next with Ameer’s ‘Kannabiraan’ and Prabhu Deva’s ‘Ich’ director Ameer has silently begun the scripting work for ‘Kannabiraan’. After ‘Yogi’ not doing well at the box office, Ameer silently moved to his native Madurai and started working on the script for ‘Kannabiraan’. Also he has delegated other ‘Kannabiraan’ research works to his assistants. The film is said to have a Madurai base and talks about the violent life and times of Madurai and its dons.

Although the plot revolves around Madurai rowdies Ameer has planned something different in this film. He is going change the popular perception that Madurai is a land of blood and violence, according to sources.

Shankar pens on Endhiran

Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Endhiran’, is going to be a visually wowee and technically super rich film. Get ready for an ultra-technical film that will be simply spellbinding. Yes, what do you say about a film, which some renowned technicians of the world-famous Stan Winston Studios have called as a movie that has made maximum use of the animatronics technique?

Director Shankar, in his blog, recently stated that the film makes use of the aforementioned technique and that its use is effective in Endhiran. "Endhiran is the first Indian movie to use Stan Winston Studio’s Animatronics technology. We all are proud and happy to be associated with the number one Hollywood studio who did a great job in movies like Jurassic Park, Predator, Terminator, Ironman and the recent Avatar," Shankar wrote in his blog.

Around 22 scenes of the movie have been shot using the technique. It reportedly took 30 months of planning and conceptualisation for a group of technicians, who came to Chennai's Sun Stuios to work for a period of 4 months to execute it. Gasp!

In his blog, Shankar has even put some of the exclusive pics where we see him with the Hollywood technicians, Rajini and others.

Simbu in his elements

Silambarasan is in news more than ever not just because of his ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ is set for release. He is also in the news with rumours floating around about his coziness with Trisha while they were shooting in Malta Islands. When he was asked about it Silambarasan denied it strongly.

He said he had no time for anything other than work in Malta. “If I am not shooting I was busy doing scripting work for my next films.” Silambarasan said. He also claims he has completed the scripts of both his future projects ‘Manmadhan-2’ and ‘Vaaliban’.

Tamanna Pair With Sasikumar

Hot shot director Sasikumar’s next untitled film in which Samuthirakani and A L Azhagappan are playing important roles is fast progressing in Chennai. The director has chosen four different titles for the film and the entire unit is at work in choosing the best.

Meanwhile news is also out that a role reversal will soon happen and Sasikumar will be directed by Samuthirakani in the next film by the unit. We hope even that will have a ‘Naadodigal’ effect.

But the hottest news is Tamannah has been approached to play heroine opposite Sasikumar. Tamannah has also agreed to give 45 days if the schedule is in November. Now who do you think is being catapulted to big league?

Abhinav Bindra enied participation at the Commonwealth games

The weird ways of the National Rifle Association (NRAI) has forced the sole gold medalist from India at the Olympics 2008 Abhinav Bindra to consider quitting the sport altogether.

Abhinav, who is practicing abroad for the past six months for the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games, which is to be held in India and China respectively, was called to show up for regular trials in India.

Bindra had to rush from Germany where he was practicing, to attend one of the trials and was appalled when the trial was postponed at the last moment.

Despite requesting the NRAI and the Sports Ministry to allow him to prepare in the same manner as he prepared for the Beijing Olympics there was no response from either of them.

A very upset Bindra said, “The present situation has me very upset and does not leave me with much motivation.”

He further added, “I don’t see any chance of future success if I'm not allowed to prepare in a certain way that has worked for me and is what my professional team and I have planned.”

To make matters worse, Bindra was denied participation at the Commonwealth shooting championship, which was to be held in February in Delhi.

Cricketers to help hockey players - Gavaskar

Unable to see the national sport of the country hockey sinking, the Indian cricket team has decided to help the hockey players.

The hockey players stopped their training session seeking their past incentives.

Former Indian skipper Gavaskar took up the initiative and Dhoni and his boys have joined him to help the hockey players resume their training for the World Cup.

Speaking on this Gavaskar said, “I approached skipper Dhoni and Harbhajan and suggested that we as the cricketing fraternity should come forward and help the situation by offering the players the incentive, recognition and reward that they were looking for a podium finish. To my absolute delight both were most agreeable and said that they would talk to the other players as well as those coming in to join the Test squad. Now that the issue stands resolved we are all delighted and wish the players the very best for the World Cup next month.”

Hope with this noble gesture of team India, the hockey players will go back to their training camps and bring home the Cup.

Kutty Review

Romantic entertainers have always had a special place in the Tamil movie industry, which is why there are so many ridiculous movies abounding. Occasionally, though, you do get something that makes you smile genuinely and one of those is Gemini Film Circuit's Kutty, directed by Mithran A Jawahar, who's already given us the successful Yaaradi Nee Mohini.

This time around, it's the Tamil version of the Telugu hit Arya and a fun ride it is, with a loveable rascal the likes of which you see only in cinema.

Kutty's (Dhanush) mission in life, it seems, is to somehow gain the love of Geetha (Shriya Saran [ Images ]), who is a student and seems to be half in love with fellow student and rich guy Arjun (Sameer Dattani). Kutty, however, is nothing if not persistent, and begins a hard-headed campaign to gain her love. He accosts her in class, at the coffee-shop, the grounds and off-campus, makes philosophical points which are genuinely hilarious but confusing, confound and throws her so completely off balance. Geetha's bewilderment is evident but she's also torn about Arjun's feelings for her, and about how to handle the situation.

Meantime, Kutty manages to rile up Arjun as well, who's always in company of his cohorts headed by Srinath but it's always Arjun who ends up losing, somehow. Matters soon come to a head: Arjun can't stand it any more, Geetha is infuriated and depressed by the lewd comments on the notice-board, while Kutty gets beaten. And then comes the clincher: all three run away. Together.

It might seem the same old story on paper and it is, but Sukumar (who wrote and directed the original Telugu movie) is to be credited for the spontaneous dialogues, and appealing, racy screenplay. Thankfully, at least this director doesn't put women down. Despite the predictable end, you're glued to the screen because of the intriguing plot twists (which also helps you ignore plot-holes like beautiful shacks owned by penniless orphans, heroes whose karate moves knock out fifty men, etc).

Of course, the reason this paper-thin plot even works for viewers is Dhanush. The man's charisma has grown from strength to strength. He dances, sings, smiles, spouts dialogues with such casual abandon and grace that he keeps his audience in fits of laughter. Comedy comes easily to him and this time around, he even fights off the villains (headed by Vincent Ashokan) with panache (accompanied by screeches and screams of delirious approval from fans). But when he finally breaks down in front of Shriya, allowing his emotions to surface, you see the actor he is, and how much he is really capable of.

Shriya is the beautiful but clueless young girl pursued by so many men that you wonder if she carries a love potion or something around. She does try to act though, and wear nice costumes (as against the routine navel act), so this is something of a different outing for her. Sameer Dattani frowns most of the time and is routed by Dhanush so much that you end up feeling sorry for him. The rest comprising of Radha Ravi, Mayilsamy and Srinath have no part to play.

Group of people at odds in all aspects get lost in an unknown island and all of sudden they travel from 2006 to 1977- 30 years back to the past. Is it reality or realms of fiction? Plainly, it’s a work of fiction that has been keeping everyone across the globe: from US President to the ordinary laymen in far-flung corners so curious about this final season. This is all about Lost- World’s most highly rated TRP show and it was recently ranked on the 5th position for the global viewership on youtube.com

Lost is all about few survivors of Oceanic 6 (Flight traveling from United States to Australia) crash that leaves them on an isolated island. The survivors have no idea about their whereabouts and what turns the thing so weird is the Time Machine that lets them travel back to past from 2006-1977.

Well, it looks like Selvaraghavan’s Aayirathil Oruvan too has been based on the same story about three characters time traveling from the present situation towards ancient centuries of Chola dynasty. The adventurous thrills about fireballs thrown from the other ends are seemingly lifted from this TV series. A forest officer, an archaeologist and a local coolie have embarked a journey on the quest of hidden past about Chola dynasty only to experience series of bizarre.

It’s noteworthy that a mysterious invisible creature killing down the survivors was blatantly replicated in Ram Gopal Varma’s Agyaat. Time Travel has been the most-loved theme for the Hollywood filmmakers as they have churned out numerous flicks based on this. Be it Back to the Future or the recent Time Traveler’s wife, these movies have been offering a sense of astonishing fantasy for the world audiences. Similarly, Bollywood’s super hit Jodi Akshay Kumar-Vipul Shah has geared up for Action Replay based on Time Travel.

Porkkalam Movie Review :

Porkkalam is a movie about a battle of a one man army. The war that ensues is beyond the realms of human imagination.

Here is a man who is not scared of littering the battleground with corpses but will he succeed? Neither is he scared of killing people nor is he scared of death.

This is a battle for love, a battle for revenge and battle for destiny. Will he succeed in this bloody gory battle?

Bank heists - it's something new when it comes to Tamil film industry. For sure, one thing that keeps us reminisced about 'bank robbery' sequence was with Bhagyaraj's yesteryear 'Rudra' that had a hilarious take on that trait. In literal sense, Hollywood’s best flicks – Tom Hanks' The Lady Killer, The Great Bank Robbery, Denzel Washington's 'Inside Man' and Al Pacino's 'Dog Day Afternoon' keeps us invigorated even when watched innumerable times.

But then, with Kollywood, there haven't been films completely based on bank robberies. Now with 'Nanayam' striking out with its genre, expectations were more with slick trailer. On pars, it could be termed as a challenging project for debutant Sakthi Rajan for having roped in two not-so successful actors Prasanna and Sibiraj in lead roles.

So, does the film live up to the expectations?

Definitely not! The film abysmally fails to engross any centre. It looks like director Sakthi has complicated the screenplay to prove himself a smart filmmaker.

The film maybe a favorite for 'A+ Centre' and certain class audiences below it will surely get discombobulated.

Set against the backdrops of a bank robbery, the film revolves around – Ravi (Prasanna) a higher official in a high-security bank, Fereed (Sibiraj) a burglar, Bank Manager Viswanath (SP Balasubramaniam), a sincere bank employee Devaki (Yasmin) and then comes Ramya with three different names – Aishwarya, Eeswari and Nandini.

A bank robbery is planned by Fereed and his co while unfavorable situations urge Ravi to join them.

But the biggest question pops up – Are the burglars really looking out for money or something else?

Well, the story seems to be interesting as we read in few lines. It looks like even producer SP Charan should've felt the same and approved the script. Indeed, we accept the filmmaker has got some innovative ideas to come up with. But then, he should have thought about one perfect idea – Who are my target audiences?

If we are gonna mark our verdicts terming 'Nanayam' as a film for 'multiplex audiences', then we're precisely wrong. Then imagine the situations of B and C centres, who hardly watch movies for the sake of entertainment.

Maybe, the publicity stunts about Sibiraj performing negative role would've adhered everyone to the film's expectation levels. But then none of the actors have got a meaty role to perform. Both Prasanna and Sibiraj are just sleepwalking through their roles. SP Balasubramaniam looks so dullish and it really makes us wonder how come he accepted to done such role. Despites Ramya having more footage, her performance level is below average. Yasmin steals the show with her minimal importance.

Technically, the film lacks substantiality: neither camera nor editing seems to be stylishly implemented.

Indeed, there are few things that'll keep you stunned. Firstly, it's about the unexpected suspense breaking out and the breathtaking stunt sequence between Prasanna and Sibiraj. Ramya's stealthy foray into bank looks interesting though it has been inspired from 'Matrix'.

On the whole, 'Nanayam' seems to have an impressive story when read as words, but debutant Sakthi fails to perfectly adapt them to the screens. Possibly, he should've dealt with this script after few years so as to avoid amateurish aspects.

Kutty : passable show
Production: Gemini Film Circuit
Direction: Jawahar Mithran
Star-casts: Dhanush, Shriya Saran, Radha Ravi, Srinath, Aarthi and others
Music: Devi Sri Prasad
Cinematography: Balasubramaniam

With most of the Pongal releases 'Aayirathil Oruvan' and 'Naanayam' turning to be the biggest disappoints, here's 'Kutty' that lives up to our expectations for certain extent. To be precise, the reason that kept us waiting for 'Kutty' was the grand success of 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini' churned out by the same duo Jawahar-Dhanush.

And now with big day of contestation, 'Kutty' is ahead of other releases.

As mentioned previously, the film is a remake of yesteryear Telugu blockbuster 'Aarya' starring Allu Arjun in lead role. If you're into the act of comparing both the original and remake version, keep yourself away from it. 'Original remains the best' and having remade after 4 years, there are few adaptations of present day situation in terms of setting.

But nothing makes the story different.

Arjun (Debutant Sameer) is a filthy rich guy and son of a leading politician Devanayagam (Radha Ravi). He has a great likeliness for college belle Geetha (Shriya Saran) and proposes her wholeheartedly. But as she keeps resenting his love, Arjun pretends to jump from the college terrace if she isn't gonna accept him. With no options left, Geetha propounds about dating him.

Enters Kutty (Dhanush), a happy-go-lucky youngster, who has no worries in life and what makes him so special is his cheerful attitude : Think Positive, Be Confident and things will happen as you wanted. Things take a turn over the tale when Kutty falls in love with Geetha at the first sight and indeed proposes her. But Geetha refuses the proposal as she already pitted herself into unwanted things. Rest of the film is all about Kutty winning her love with his affirmative approach and self-confidence.

Years back the Telugu version 'Aarya' was adjudged as a 'sang-froid entertainer' that offered a better show. Now, the film too travels on the same notes. The first half is slightly sluggish as it takes some time to settle down with the main plot. But later as it proceeds towards the second hour, it maintains the momentum. Probably, there are chances for few groups to have great likeliness for first half while others maybe interested in second half.

On the performance level, Dhanush with his boy-to-next-door looks offers a perfect amusement for his fans. Kudos to Shriya Charan! For the girl who hardly gave any performance, deserves special mention here with simple looks. Hope she keeps herself adhered to such sort of roles. Debutant Sameer steals the show with his appealing performance and he's the new guy to be watched in town. Aarthi and Srinath add to the humor quotients while Radha Ravi is okay.

Technically, the songs are completely disappointing as none of them keep us captivated. Especially, the ardent listeners of 'Aa Ante Amalapuram' of 'Aarya' will be disappointed with the train song over here. Balasubramaniam's cinematography is a visual treat with eye-catching shots.

If Jawahar Mithran had penned the screenplay with more finesses avoiding few subtle and slow moments, the film would be received great appreciation from all centres. As of now, 'Kutty' will be a winner amongst 'B' and 'C' centres. If you've planned to watch this film, walk into theatres without any expectations and you will feel it worthy.

If you're still looking out for a clear-cut verdict, just behave the way similar to this film's protagonist - Think positive and the film is good and probably the vice-versa as well.

aayirathil oruvan online movie

aayirathil oruvan online movie

Selvaraghavan’s two years in the making, action adventure Aayirathil Oruvan is a brave attempt at trying to come out with something new in the placid world of Tamil cinema. Breaking away from the shackles of the stereotypes, the director transports us to a whole new world and at the end of it all, we are dumb stuck by the visuals, the packaging and the new way of storytelling.
The film has a terrific first half with a basic thread, comedy, action, eye catching song picturisation, stunning visuals and grandeur. The film combines ultra-violent action with murky mysticism. The Government appoints a secret team led by archaeologist Anitha Pandian (Reemma) and a military officer Ravi (Azhagamperumal) to track down the missing links after a scientist and archaeologist (Pratap Pothen) vanishes into thin air while he was on his mission to discover the lost Chola civilization!

To help them reach the lost city, Lavanya, daughter of the missing archaeologist is roped in for the mission. And helping the group to carry their belongings through the rough and tough jungle terrain and sea is the Coolie gang led by Muthu (Karthi), a boorish, uncouth, foul mouthed guy with roving eyes. They go through some of the most inhospitable terrain full of hidden danger and nature’s fury.

Suddenly after a tedious expedition, they stumble on the lost Chola civilization and its king (Parthipan) and find unexplained links between them and the world’s earliest culture. What follows is a series of happenings that will leave you glued to the screen.

The subtle message that Selva tries to convey is that a group of people cut away from civilisation, struck with poverty and knowledge is far superior to the present generation who lack values, culture or basic human kindness. All this leads to some unexpected twists and turns in the climax till you find that history repeats once again as Muthu rescues and run away with the King’s son to the darkness, like what happened centuries back!

Aayirathil Oruvan starts with a bang, but it doesn’t unfold quickly. The second half takes a u-turn and is riddled with holes in the plot line and is confusing and tedious. It looks like another film and there are long gaps of silence in the climax which will make an ordinary viewer restless.

Directing an interweaving screenplay, Selva’s narrative structure bursts with sporadic agility along with top class camera work by Ramji.

GV Prakash’s background score and his music is tangy. Un Mela Aasadhan.. sung by Dhanush, Aishwarya Dhanush and Andrea and picturised on the lead trio is a rocker. The remixed old MGR song on Karthi and the coolies is a treat.

Reemma brings an uninhibited joie to her role as Anitha and thanks to the ability of the director has extracted a fine performance from her. Andrea is likeable and seems to have enjoyed doing the film. Parthipan is adequate as the king. But it is Karthi, who is a scream. Right from his introduction scene till the end, he is lovable and provides humour. Actually Karthi with his punchlines is getting the loudest claps as the crazy MGR fan and has made a sensational comeback three years after his debut film.

The film has to be seen in the right perspective. Selvaraghavan is trying to explore the frontiers of commercial cinema. For this alone he should be applauded.

Producer Ronnie Screwvala
Director Ken Ghosh
Music Adnan Sami, Sandeep Shirodkar
Lyrics Irfan Siddique, Amitabh Bhattacharya, Kumaar, Pritam Chakraborty
Release Date 15-Jan-2010

Ken Ghosh’s dance-drama takes no chance in experimenting with storytelling style and ends up being an extended version of the music videos that he used to direct before making feature films.

Chance Pe Dance is stuff legendary Bollywood biographies are made of. Sameer Behl (Shahid Kapoor) comes to Bombay with Bollywood dreams, struggles through the day as a courier boy and keeps failing in auditions for advertisements. More stereotypes are stuffed in as he refuses to take help from his dad in Delhi (Parikshit Sahni almost repeating his Idiot act), is thrown out from his rented flat by the landlord (Kurush Deboo still unable to surpass his Parsi performance) and comes away with his calculative companion (Vikas Bhalla making his comeback).

Soon Sameer is signed as the male lead in a film and friend Tina (Genelia D’Souza) is selected as the choreographer on the same project. The characterizations kinda remind of Naach ; Ram Gopal Varma’s film on dance, if you have heard of it by any chance. Both homeless and jobless now, Sameer sleeps in his car (yes, he could afford one after doing one lungi ad) and works as a dance teacher in a school. Regardless of the references it derives from Jack Black’s The School of Rock , the film fails to rock till the end credits roll.

Subsequently Sameer loses his film and is disillusioned. Tina encourages him to participate in a television talent-hunt show, the winner of which will win the same role that Sameer was to play. In his screen-test, Sameer dedicates his monologue to his mother in the same mould with which most Miss India participants mouth their monotonous thanksgiving speech.

The film starts on a promising note with smoothly synchronized opening credits but by its sixth scene you sense where it’s heading. The screenplay by Ken Ghosh and Nupur Asthana is conventional to the core, has predictable plot-points and lacks any dramatic graph. Kiran Kotrial’s dialogues lack depth and additional writing help by Manu Rishi ( Oye Lucky Lucky Oye ) doesn’t add any value to the narrative. Ken Ghosh’s direction lacks as much conviction as his writing and it’s easy to comprehend how he hurries and fabricates the storytelling in the second half.

The story had enough scope to be humourous but the treatment is lame and laughable. Sameer’s training and team-building sessions with the school kids is rushed through a transition song and does not contribute to the central plot in any way. Though Shahid and Genelia make a cute couple on screen, their chemistry is concocted at the same dull and dreary speed with which Genelia rides her two-wheeler in those two hilarious scenes of the film. Sadly by the time she picks up pace in the climax, it’s a bit too late.

For a dance-driven film like this, the music should have been catchy beyond comparison. Though Adnan Sami and Pritam’s tunes don’t disappoint, it isn’t mind-blowing material. Choreography is a clearly the highlight of the film. Dance directors Ahmed Khan and international artist Marty Kudelka give challenging steps to Shahid Kapoor that he performs with effortless grace, panache and attitude. But too much of song-n-dance is detrimental to the film’s flow.

Finally the entire burden of carrying off this film lands on Shahid Kapoor’s shoulders and his chiseled flashboard abs prove of no help in this respect. He dances fabulously and acts convincingly but isn’t able to salvage the sinking ship. Genelia D’Souza is delightful and appealing. The kids try too hard to be cute. Zian Khan esp. has lost his childish charm.

Sadly, scripts are written for reality shows today but there is no real good scripting involved in feature films. So in times when dance talent-hunt shows on television promise more drama and entertainment, you find no good reason why to give this dance a chance.
