The second-year forward scored both of Dallas' goals in its season-opening shootout loss to Nashville. The Stars may also have a rookie on their shutdown line tonight. Tom Wandell, who has 15 games of NHL experience, could replace Mike Modano (sore ribs), who has 1,401 games of NHL experience.

Modano's sore ribs could keep him out of tonight's game, making way for Wandell, a Swede who played mostly in his home country last season because Dallas didn't have an AHL affiliate. Jere Lehtinen has been hampered by hip and groin injuries that kept him out of the season opener. He's questionable for tonight. Edmonton could be without Moreau (infected left ankle). Marc Pouliot (inflamed pubic bone) practiced with the team Monday for the first time since getting hurt in a preseason game Sept. 24 against Tampa Bay. He remains on IR.

Pierre-Marc Bouchard is returning from years playing wing to center the second line. He struggled Saturday.

The frustrating Marian Gaborik era is over. The Wild is learning a new system under Richards, one that emphasizes more speed and offensive attack, after years of Jacques Lemaire's tight defensive style. It will probably take a little time, but the Wild has a lot of young players who should welcome the opportunity to show the skills that got them to the NHL.

Ducks center Petteri Nokelainen is day-to-day with an abdominal injury. For the Wild, left winger Derek Boogaard is out indefinitely with a concussion and center/left winger Benoit Pouliot is sidelined indefinitely with a groin injury.

The main storyline is the return of former Flame Mike Cammalleri to Calgary with his new club. Last season, Cammalleri scored a career-high 39 goals with 82 points playing mostly on a line with Jarome Iginla, but opted to join Montreal as a free agent and sign a five-year contract.

Montreal is 2-0-0 thanks to consecutive overtime wins against division rivals Toronto and Buffalo, and became the third team in League history to begin a season with two overtime victories, joining the 1984-85 Maple Leafs and the 2006-07 Sabres. Calgary is the first stop on the Canadiens' three-game western road trip. They have yet to play a home game and won't make it back to Montreal until Oct. 15.

The Capitals have exploded out of the gate offensively, but their defense was an issue Saturday. After taking a 6-1 lead on Toronto, they had to hold on for a 6-4 victory. "I was once told that anytime you win, you shouldn't complain because there's so many times you lose," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "I told the guys that it was a great win and a great start, but that we have to learn how to win 6-1 when we are in this position and not think we are going to win 9-1. I can preach about, which we do, but you've got to be committed to do that. But I think we have the group of leaders in the room to make that happen."

While Emery has been good in net, he hasn't had to work all that hard. Among teams to play more than once, Philadelphia has allowed just 54 shots, fifth-fewest in the League. Much of that can be attributed to a puck-control offense and a defense led by Chris Pronger, who has played more than 25 minutes in each game. Also, five different players have goals, and 13 have at least one point.

Tampa Bay will need a better performance from No. 1 goaltender Mike Smith on Tuesday night. Smith, acquired in the deal that sent former Conn Smythe Trophy winner Brad Richards to the Dallas Stars, allowed six goals on just 28 shots against the Thrashers on Saturday. Atlanta had a 4-0 lead by the 12:42 mark of the second period. However, coach Rick Tocchet believes his defensemen also need to have a greater sense of urgency.

Carolina will attempt to snap out of its offensive funk in this one, and it will have to do so without Erik Cole. The scoring winger is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured left leg. The injury was suffered due to a collision with Boston Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman on Saturday. Without Cole, expect the 'Canes to go with a top line of Eric Staal, Sergei Samsonov and Tuomo Ruutu.

A tally by Peter Regin with six seconds left made the final score more respectable, but after a tough start to the season, Ottawa will be hoping its first meeting with winless Toronto is the tonic that brings its offense to life.

Doing so will require a more disciplined brand of hockey than what Jason Spezza described as the "scrambly" effort the Sens put out Saturday. They committed a number of penalties, including three in the first period which put them behind the eight ball early and made it difficult to get into a groove offensively.
