Temporary truce in Kollywood

A temporary truce has been brought out after a meeting of various unions of Tamil film industry met on Saturday (Feb 20) to sort out the aftermath of Ajith’s controversial speech at a function organised to felicitate Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

The meeting chaired by Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan, FEFSI president V C Guhanathan, Nadigar Sangam general secretary Radha Ravi, R K Selvamani from Tamil Film Directors Association and representatives of film distributors association, exhibitors and theatre owners association demanded an unconditional apology from Ajith. They also condemned Rajinikanth’s statements on the issue.

Meanwhile Ajith and Rajinikanth kept their cool and refused to make any apology. In an interview to an English newspaper, Ajith struck to what he had said in his speech.

Expanding on the comments made at a function, the actor made it clear: “Let stars choose what causes they want to endorse without making it an issue of loyalty to the state or country,”

The Saturday film industry meeting has temporarily put the “Ajith issue” on the backburner. They requested artistes and associations not to talk to media over the issue and vitiate the matter further.

Film bodies demand unconditional apology from Ajith

The controversy over the speech of Ajith at the CM felicitation function on Feb 6 has stirred the entire film industry. Even after many statements and counter statements the issue is still simmering.

At a specially convened meeting today all the major film bodies, including artistes association, has demanded Ajith to render unconditional apology to the Tamil film fraternity for hurting their feelings with his speech. And the members expressed their agony over Rajinikanth appreciating Ajith for his bold words and also condemned Rajinikanth.

The meeting also decided to withdraw their earlier ‘no co-operation’ call to Rajini-Ajith films heeding to requests from the producers council and artistes association.

At the end of the meeting it was decided that the issue has been discussed enough and is declared over. It also said nobody should here after talk about this issue in media either individually or on behalf of an organisation.

The media statement was signed by FEFSI President V C Guhanathan, Distributors Association President Kalaipuli G. Sekaran, Producers Council President Rama Narayanan and Artistes Association Secretary Radha Ravi.

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya is going to have a very big release

Gautham Vasudeva Menon’s Silambarasan- Trisha love story Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya is going to have a very big release worldwide on February 26.

Red Giant Movies are marketing it like a big superstar Tamil film and is planning to release it in nearly 350 screens worldwide.

Says a Tamil film marketing man: “ VTV is following the saturation release strategy followed by big films. In Chennai city it is releasing in a dozen screens including Sathyam big screen, and thanks to the clout of Red Giant the film is getting maximum shows.”

VTV’s is being distributed in Kerala by Gokulam Gopalan, who after the mega success of Pazhassi Raja is a major force. In the overseas market, it will be Simbu’s biggest ever release.

Surya Pair with Shruti Haasan

After a vigorous hunt for actresses, A. R. Murugadoss has finally zeroed on Kamal Haasan's elder daughter Shruti Haasan for his upcoming film. The film is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giant Movies and has Surya playing the lead role.

Though according to grapevine, earlier Murugadoss was keen on roping Asin as the female lead but finally took the decision to cast Shruti with Surya. Since, producers are planning to make the film simultaneously in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil; they would rather prefer Shruti who is popular in Bollywood.

Shruti Haasan made her debut in Hindi film industry with 'Luck' and shared screen space with Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan. A.R. Murugadoss has already raked in critical appreciation as well as box-office moolah with 'Ghajini' and Surya is making headlines in tabloids after Ram Gopal Varma signed him for crime-thriller 'Rakta Charitra'.
