Gandhi house in South Africa sold for $377,029

Despite several efforts and noise from all over to force the Indian government to buy the Mahatma Gandhi house in South Africa, all efforts turned futile as a French Company clinched the deal by bidding for USD 377,029, outbidding all other applicants.

The French company, Voyageur du Monde plans to turn the Gandhi house into a museum and is well known for investing in heritage properties around the world. The company is listed on the Paris Stock Exchange.

Gandhiji lived in this house between 1908 and 1910. The house was bought by Nancy and Jarrod Ball in the year 1981 for Rand 65,000.
