Deccan come in to the game off the back of five straight wins, after a terrible start to the defence of their title had put them all but out of the running. Amid much back-slapping and team love-ins, Adam Gilchrist's side came charging back to secure an unlikely second spot on the IPL table, and their momentum coming into the knock-out phase is an ominous sign for Chennai.
The Super Kings meanwhile had a destructive Mahendra Dhoni to thank as they snuck into the semi-final in an emotionally charged run chase in Dharamsala. Despite having gone down to Deccan in both home and away games this season, the Super Kings will start in Mumbai as slight favourites, on the back of the power-hitting potential packed by their top order.
The attraction of the second semi-final will therefore not be the watching of old stars who we have seen do it all before. It won't be down to whether Herschelle Gibbs or Muttiah Muralitharan get a game, whether Chaminda Vaas figures or Andrew Symonds muscles his raw power. Instead it's the local men who will determine which of these two outfits gets the opportunity to appear in their second IPL final.
