Officials of the Income Tax department on Tuesday carried out searches on the premises of several film personalities in Chennai and various parts of Tamil Nadu.
Based on a tip-off that film personalities have undeclared income, tax officials conducted searches at the residences of actors Suriya, Vadivelu, directors K S Ravikumar and A R Murugadas. Income tax officials in Madurai region searched Vadivelu's house there.
Spread over separate teams, IT sleuths descended at actor Suriya's residences in T Nagar and Adyar and that of Ravikumar's house at Saidapet. Though the officials were tightlipped about the seizures during the raids, sources said the raids were conducted for alleged tax evasion.
“The searches are in initial stages and details would be provided in a day or two after getting definite information,” officials were quoted as saying.
It may be noted that Suriya, Vadivelu and Ravikumar had combined together for the recent ‘Aadhavan’, which was produced by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's grand son Udhayanidhi Stalin. Murugados was said to be the director of a forthcoming
project of Udhayanidhi.
