What a beginning the Lankan Lions have made in the Champions trophy? They simply destroyed the South African line up clueless and blew the bugle that they cannot be regarded as underdogs. Playing South Africa on their home ground in the first match of the tournament, they were brutal on the field whether it was batting or bowling and even fielding.
South Africa although won the toss they chose to field first and this had cost them dearly; looks like. The Sri Lanka team took this brilliant opportunity and made a mammoth score of 319/8 on the board, and in reply the Proteas scored just 206/7, which now puts them in the third position on the ICC ODI Ranking.
Tomorrow team England will face the Lankans at the New Wanderers Stadium. The Ashes Heroes will now be playing their first match of the Champions Trophy 2009. After a superb performance against SA the Lankans are all charged up to taken on the England fiercely.
England would want to start afresh in this match after their miserable put up of a show against the Australia in the ODI series that was played a few weeks earlier; England lost six matches out of seven one-day Internationals against the Aussies. Thankfully they saved the grace winning the last match and didn’t give the opportunity of a white wash victory to the Aussies.
Still England will miss their star players, Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Peitersen. Captain Andrew Strauss would want to turn things around and prove their mettle in the upcoming match; he doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned.
