Sakhir, Bahrain - Fernando Alonso took first place in the final practice session on Saturday for the season-opening Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix.
The former two-time world champion Alonso of Spain clocked 1 minute 54.099 seconds in a Ferrari for the 6.299-kilometres lap.
German Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg had 1:54.368, Australia's Red Bull driver Mark Webber was third in 1:54.500, returning record champion Michael Schumacher fourth in 1:54.533 and world champion Jenson Button of Britain seventh in a McLaren in 1:55.000 minutes.
Qualifying was scheduled for later Saturday and the race is Sunday.
