Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni got enganged with his long time friend, Sakshi Singh Rawat, at a quiet ceremony in Dehradun on Saturday, Jun 3.
A close family friend of Dhoni told the reporters that the engagement was at hotel Bhagirath in Dehradun. He added that a few close friends of him were present for the ceremony besides his family members. Media was kept away and engagement was done in a very secretive manner.
29-year-old Dhoni and Sakshi, 23, had been school friends since their early school days in Ranchi. Their fathers were colleagues in MECON before Rawats moved to Dehradun after retirement.
Sources also said that both of them had been seeing each other after two years. They holidayed together in Mussoorie and Dehradun, before the engagement.
When asked about the date of their marriage, the friend said that it is not yet confirmed. Day will be decided very soon. He added that Dhoni will tie the knot may be after the Australian series at home, during October 2010

The procession of unheralded ‘ovas’ and ‘evas’ this year has done nothing to derail her queenly ascendancy.
Indeed, most of these game girls from eastern Europe quail at her presence, with young Czech Petra Kvitova even admitting beforehand that she stood no chance.
Much as Vera Zvonareva tries to project an underdog’s charm with her flattery of Serena, her role in Saturday afternoon’s final is likely to offer little more than one last case of ‘ova and out’.
To some, the assertion of the Williams dynasty at Wimbledon, with one or both of Serena and sister Venus having featured on ladies’ final day for nine of the past 10 years, is a dispiriting development, a reflection only of the pair’s bludgeoning power.
But for Serena, so enamoured of the traditions here that she has labelled this season’s outfit ‘strawberries and cream’, it is a dominance to be cherished - and preserved.
“It has been a great decade and I feel honoured to be part of it,” said the younger Williams, pursuing her fourth Venus Rosewater dish and 13th grand slam title.
“Just to have my name mentioned at Wimbledon is amazing. I hope we’ll still be around during the next decade.”
Kim Clijsters, whom she faces at Wimbledon before a record-breaking crowd at King Baudouin stadium in Brussels, might beg to differ. The Belgian would have enjoyed greater pre-eminence but for the Williams monopoly.
But Serena, who enjoys adding to her trophies almost as much as she does styling her dresses, has no intention of ceding her supremacy easily.
“Once you have something, you always want to keep it, so that’s always something that I desire. I’ve worked so hard to reach this. To see my name there on the winners’ board is unbelievable.”
As gauche as she sounds, she regards a potential fifth inscription on that board on Saturday almost with an insouciance. She can think of nothing better than preparing by watching a few episodes of her beloved Desperate Housewives.
“I have to catch up,” she explained. “I’m going to relax a bit. So I’m excited about that.”
Fortunately, Zvonareva, appearing in her first slam final, is betraying rather greater emotion.
“Tennis is an emotional sport,” the 25 year-old from Moscow said. “If you don’t have any emotions, you will never be able to win.
“You go out there to give your best. When John McEnroe used to play, he did what he wanted and he never got penalised. It’s part of the game. Otherwise we become like robots.”
The Russian has acquired a reputation for fiery behaviour on court, wrecking rackets at will, but she encouraged her Centre Court critics to look deeper.
“It doesn’t mean, if I break the racket, that I’m going to stop playing. I think, with experience and maturity, I learn a lot about myself, and I know when I have to pump myself up and where I have to calm myself down.”
It was an elegant answer, perhaps fitting for somebody following studies in international diplomacy. She had to take several months out of her three-year, distance learning course for her tennis but intends to resume in earnest in September.
Safe to conclude, then, that she is not one with the time to entertain such frivolities as choice of dress, or how to carry her bouquet.
Pressed on her favourite courses, she replied: “World diplomacy. International affairs - that was a very interesting one. And a little bit of statistics and trade organisation. Those are my favourite ones.”
Zvonareva, plainly, approaches difficult propositions with relish. The Serena equation, though, should be one too tricky even for her to solve.
